Many traditional sources such as books and journal articles can quite often present predominantly Eurocentric and Global North perspectives, consulting alternative media sources that offer marginalised and new voices more of a platform can help to balance out the biases.<\/p>\n

Media Diversified<\/a><\/p>\n

is a non profit platform that is working to enrich, engage and improve the UKs media landscape. It\u2019s mission is to challenge the homogeneity of voices in the UK media news, through addressing the under-representation of global majority communities.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t forgot that alternative sources such as TED talks, YouTube and social media sites like Twitter can also offer other perspectives.<\/p>\n

Research has shown that dominant databases in academic research have a Global North and English language bias, so try to look for information beyond Europe, the USA and the Global North.<\/p>\n

Within key databases, it is possible to filter by country\/region of origin as well as institution and funding agencies. these can help you identify research output from diverse sources.<\/p>\n

Both\u00a0Web of Science<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Scopus\u00a0<\/a>allow this and the video clip below shows an example of how to do this.<\/p>\n
