David Alele

Name: David Alele
Degree course: Business & Information Technology with Yr in Industry

Why did you choose Kent?

Kent was highly rated for Computing and highly recommended by my 6th form tutor.

What attracted you to the course?

Getting a blend of both business and IT was key for me. I wanted to understand how businesses operated and how technology could support them

Did you do a year in industry? If so where and how useful was it in getting a graduate job?

Yes. I completed 13 months at Wanstor, based in London Bridge. Very helpful in helping me get a graduate job because the experience I gained gave me more leverage against other graduates.

How did your degree course lay the foundations for your chosen career path?

The blend of both a Business and Technical understanding positioned me for a Technical Account Manager role. My roles is predominantly sales, however being able to relate to the IT Managers with their technical questions allows me to deliver the best results for them.

Could you describe your career path since leaving Kent?

It has been a progressive career so far. I have been able to gain a promotion during my initial graduate role job. Since then I have moved onto another company to a more senior role.

Could you describe a typical day in your current role?

Looking after a base of 80 Customers and supporting them with their IT projects throughout the year. This includes regular meetings to discuss their technological requirements, create detailed proposals, create technical documents with technical team and support with the implementation of the solutions. In a nutshell, selling technological solutions into my account base which helps their business function better.

What are your future plans/aspirations?

Make up to £100k and manage a team

Do you have any other happy memories of Kent that you would like to share with us?

I miss the nightlife and not having so much responsibilities

Finally, what advice would you give to someone thinking of coming to Kent?

Kent is a great place to come and learn. They have very supportive tutors that will support you in achieving whatever you want. Great mix of culture and the nightlife is great! I wish I could rewind the time!
