Our competition this year has been shaped by the exciting research being undertaken in the \u201c<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/egypt-artefacts\/\">Roman and Late Antique Artefacts from Egypt<\/a><\/strong>\u201d project. The project brings artefacts from the past back to life \u2013 and we\u2019re inviting you to do the same through the power of your story telling. Entrants are invited to write a short story inspired by one of the artefacts featured on the project\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/egypt-artefacts\/\">blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/clas\/files\/2019\/01\/Exhibition.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-192 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/clas\/files\/2019\/01\/Exhibition-229x300.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"229\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/clas\/files\/2019\/01\/Exhibition-229x300.gif 229w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/clas\/files\/2019\/01\/Exhibition-768x1004.gif 768w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/clas\/files\/2019\/01\/Exhibition-783x1024.gif 783w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 229px) 100vw, 229px\" \/><\/a>Why not get further inspiration by going to see the project\u2019s free exhibition \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/culture\/whats-on\/sounds-roman-egypt\">Sounds of Roman Egypt<\/a>\u2019 at the Petrie Museum, London? (opens 22nd January 2019).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prizes<\/strong> up for grabs are: 1st Prize \u00a3100, 2nd Prize \u00a350, Two runners-up \u00a325<\/p>\n<p><strong>Advice<\/strong> for entrants<br \/>\n1) <strong>Explore<\/strong> the project\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/egypt-artefacts\/\">blog<\/a> and decide on an artefact as the inspiration for your story.<br \/>\n2) <strong>Watch <\/strong>these animations \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=juWYhMoDTN0\">A Glimpse of Teenage Life in Ancient Rome<\/a>\u2019 \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RQMgLxVxsrw&amp;t=1s\">Four Sisters in Ancient Rome<\/a>\u2019 and \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RJSZKNa_bgQ&amp;t=5s\">A Day in the Life of a Roman Client<\/a>\u2019 to get ideas about how research about the Roman world can be packed into a short story.<br \/>\n3) <strong>Think<\/strong> about who, what, where, when, and why for your chosen artefact (what was life like in the time and place that it was from?). You should also make your story about it as vivid as possible by thinking about how the senses (touch, smell, sight, taste and sounds) affected interactions with it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rules<\/strong><br \/>\n1) An entry form must be completed \u2013 click to download one: <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/clas\/files\/2019\/01\/Story-competition-2019-entrant-form-ed.doc\">Story-competition-2019-form<\/a>.<br \/>\n2) Length \u2013 no more than 1000 words.<br \/>\n3) Subject matter \u2013 a story about one of the artefacts in the Roman and Late Antique Artefacts from Egypt: https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/egypt-artefacts\/<br \/>\n4) The text of the script needs to be double-spaced and in a font larger than Arial 11.<br \/>\n5) The text of the script must be written in English.<br \/>\n6) Entrants need to be attending a school\/college in the United Kingdom \u2013 Years 7 to 13.
