{"id":574,"date":"2019-04-08T11:00:32","date_gmt":"2019-04-08T10:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/chda\/?p=574"},"modified":"2019-03-19T09:12:25","modified_gmt":"2019-03-19T09:12:25","slug":"kent-apprentice-presents-poster-at-stem-for-britain-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/chda\/2019\/04\/08\/kent-apprentice-presents-poster-at-stem-for-britain-exhibition\/","title":{"rendered":"Kent apprentice presents poster at STEM for Britain exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>STEM for Britain is a yearly event which aims to encourage, support and promote early-stage research scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians.\u00a0 There are a series of poster competitions and exhibitions in the House of Commons.<\/p>\n<p>The competition attracts around 500 entrants, with around 35% of submissions chosen for presentation in Parliament.\u00a0 Researchers can engage with members of the Houses of Parliament, discussing current STEM research.\u00a0 Around 100 members of parliament attend the event and have face-to-face conversations with researchers.<\/p>\n<p>Mafalda Aresta-Branco, a Kent apprentice, was chosen to present a poster on her research at this year\u2019s STEM for Britain exhibition.\u00a0 Her research revolved around microvasculature properties and function in a live bladder tissue model.\u00a0 Mafalda\u2019s poster was eye-catching and interesting, even for those who are not experts in bioscience!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_575\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-575\" style=\"width: 579px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-575\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/chda\/files\/2019\/03\/20190313_152901-e1552986552181-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Mafalda Aresta-Branco with her research poster at STEM for Britain\" width=\"579\" height=\"772\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/chda\/files\/2019\/03\/20190313_152901-e1552986552181-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/chda\/files\/2019\/03\/20190313_152901-e1552986552181-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/chda\/files\/2019\/03\/20190313_152901-e1552986552181-1920x2560.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 579px) 100vw, 579px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-575\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mafalda Aresta-Branco with her research poster at STEM for Britain<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Talking to us after the event, Mafalda said that the quality of all of the posters was amazing.\u00a0 The judges made great comments about her research and the poster she presented.\u00a0 Mafalda even got the chance to talk to Kelly Tolhurt (MP for Strood and Rochester) between debates.<\/p>\n<p>STEM for Britain is an excellent opportunity for early-stage researchers to raise their profile and foster dialogue with members of Westminster and their constituency.\u00a0 Early-stage STEM researchers are an essential part of the continued progress of UK research and development, and STEM for Britain is an incredible celebration of their importance.<\/p>\n<p>At CHDA, we are incredibly proud of Mafalda\u2019s research and her achievements in presenting at the exhibition \u2013 she is a shining example of a Kent apprentice.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>If you are interested in one of our STEM apprenticeships, find out more\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/apprenticeships\/current-apprenticeships.html\">here<\/a>\u00a0or contact us by emailing\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:apprenticeships@kent.ac.uk\">apprenticeships@kent.ac.uk<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>STEM for Britain is a yearly event which aims to encourage, support and promote early-stage research scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians.\u00a0 There are a series &hellip;
