{"id":533,"date":"2018-12-06T10:00:41","date_gmt":"2018-12-06T10:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/chda\/?p=533"},"modified":"2018-12-06T12:58:17","modified_gmt":"2018-12-06T12:58:17","slug":"ges-dep-is-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/chda\/2018\/12\/06\/ges-dep-is-live\/","title":{"rendered":"GES-DEP is LIVE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is extremely exciting to share that the GES-DAP (Government Economic Service Degree Apprenticeship Programme) is officially live.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GES-DAP: What is it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The GESDAP the UK\u2019s first degree-level apprenticeship in economics \u2013 creating new routes to careers in the Civil Service for young people who would prefer to study for a degree whilst working at the heart of government.<\/li>\n<li>It will offer students a starting salary of about \u00a322k in London and in excess of \u00a320k nationally.<\/li>\n<li>The programme will be delivered in partnership with the University of Kent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Who is it for?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open to candidates with GCSE maths at grade B (6) or above and 96 UCAS points \u2013 equivalent to CCC at\u00a0 A-level, MMM for a BTEC Diploma, DD for a BTEC Certificate.<\/li>\n<li>You don\u2019t need to be studying economics, this apprenticeship is open to people from a range of backgrounds and knowledge who are simply passionate about making change for the benefit of society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Who is it for?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open to candidates with GCSE maths at grade B (6) or above and 96 UCAS points \u2013 equivalent to CCC at\u00a0 A-level, MMM for a BTEC Diploma, DD for a BTEC Certificate.<\/li>\n<li>You don\u2019t need to be studying economics, this apprenticeship is open to people from a range of backgrounds and knowledge who are simply passionate about making change for the benefit of society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_535\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-535\" style=\"width: 615px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-535 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/chda\/files\/2018\/12\/ges-dap.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/chda\/files\/2018\/12\/ges-dap.jpg 615w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/chda\/files\/2018\/12\/ges-dap-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-535\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The main aim of this apprenticeship is to increase diversity in the civil service, offering apprentices the opportunity to work in the heart of the government while earning a degree in Economics.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Role of Economics in Government<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The central role played by economists in government will become increasingly\u00a0important as we move towards new economic arrangements for the UK and the\u00a0challenges associated with that.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Analysing evidence to inform policy<\/li>\n<li>Advising on choices and alternatives<\/li>\n<li>Bridging gaps between academia and government<\/li>\n<li>Advising how markets work<\/li>\n<li>Advising on macro-economic policy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Apprentices will complete their studies at the University of Kent \u2013 selected to deliver the programme because of the strength of our economics courses and the support we will offer to apprentices throughout their time on programme.
