For many students, the idea of gaining a degree, whilst building skills and industry experience is becoming an increasingly attractive option.

Features like this play an important role in helping young people learn more about apprenticeships and make informed decisions about their education and career options.

A Glimpse into George’s Journey

George works for the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and is now in his 3rd year of the apprenticeship. Reflecting, he says his journey wasn’t particularly ‘conventional’ as he took a gap year and worked in Asda before deciding to apply.

Now, three years into his role, George says:

“Working at the ONS has only deepened my passion for economic data and hearing seasoned economists discuss their work in policy and analysis has been incredibly inspiring.”

The combination of study and hands-on experience has been key to his growth. George explains that the theoretical knowledge gained through his modules has been “instrumental” in supporting his work at ONS. The apprenticeship has equipped him with “the technical know-how for handling data analysis, production and interpretation” which are all essential skills for his role.

When offering advice to students considering their next steps, George encourages curiosity and exploration telling students to “stay curious and openminded” and “dive into events to discover which areas of economics truly excited you.”

His story highlights just how much an apprenticeship can shape a young person’s career. We love seeing our apprentices’ achievements celebrated and hope his journey encourages more students to discover the incredible opportunities that apprenticeships offer.

If you’d like to read the full feature and subscribe to the magazine, you can find it here: Economic Review – Hodder Education Magazines

Feeling inspired?

Contact us to discover how apprenticeships can bring fresh skills and new perspectives into your organisation.

We’re excited to see George, one of our Professional Economist apprentices featured in the Economic Review, a publication for A-level Economics students interested in key … Read more

[178772
