Unlike apprenticeships of the past, the Senior Leader apprenticeship is designed with experienced managers in mind. Executive training underpins the apprenticeship and on successful completion apprentices are awarded the Kent MBA. This makes it ideal for those wishing to upskill, or gain an advanced management qualification.
The introduction of the apprenticeship levy – whereby larger employers are required to contribute to a funding pot which they can access to purchase apprenticeship training – and generous government co-investment for smaller employers – meaning they have 90-100% of apprentice training costs cover – have made apprenticeships an increasingly popular way to upskill staff.
The apprenticeship is based on an apprenticeship standard, which has been developed by employers and details the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of senior leaders and has been designed with leaders from all sectors in mind – as such we will be welcoming a cohort of executives from a wide range of organisations to join our apprenticeship programme in September.
All apprentices will be part of the University’s student community and Kent staff will support each apprentice through their journey, with regular catch-ups to discuss how things are progressing. Learning is structured to fit round professional commitments, and comprises 6 separate, week-long blocks of face-to-face teaching at the Canterbury Campus, supplemented with additional activities such as guest speaker events.
