{"id":472,"date":"2021-03-31T16:21:13","date_gmt":"2021-03-31T15:21:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/centreforjournalism\/?p=472"},"modified":"2021-04-15T15:44:45","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T14:44:45","slug":"cfj-students-score-94-pass-rate-in-one-of-hardest-exams-of-nctj-diploma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/centreforjournalism\/2021\/03\/31\/cfj-students-score-94-pass-rate-in-one-of-hardest-exams-of-nctj-diploma\/","title":{"rendered":"CfJ students score 94% pass rate in one of hardest exams of NCTJ Diploma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">CfJ students sitting \u201cone of the hardest exams\u201d of the NCTJ Diploma in Journalism achieved a 94% pass rate this week \u2013 with a third of them receiving the highest available grade.<\/p>\n<p>Out of a total of 16 undergraduate and postgraduate students who sat their two-hour online NCTJ Essential Journalism exam in March, 15 passed (with a mark at grade C or higher) and five scored a grade A.<\/p>\n<p>CfJ Director of Education <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/journalism\/people\/2242\/bailey-rob\">Rob Bailey<\/a> said: \u2018Congratulations to everyone! This is a stunning testament to the dedication, resilience and talent of our students during an unorthodox year. So proud of you all.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The NCTJ Essential Journalism exam is a mandatory component of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nctj.com\/journalism-qualifications\/diploma-in-journalism\">NCTJ Diploma in Journalism<\/a> \u2013 a qualification that editors look for when recruiting a trainee journalist. Rob said: \u2018The exam tests students\u2019 ability to write clear, accurate and engaging stories to a realistic newspaper deadline, pitch ideas to develop a story, promote it on social media, and show their knowledge of journalism ethics. It\u2019s regarded as one of the hardest exams in the Diploma.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Having an NCTJ Diploma is the closest thing there is to a passport to a job in UK journalism and CfJ students have the opportunity to graduate with both a degree and a diploma.<\/p>\n<p>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/journalism\/undergraduate\">Journalism BA programmes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/journalism\/postgraduate\">Multimedia Journalism MA programme<\/a> are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/journalism\/professional-recognition\">fully accredited<\/a>\u00a0by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ), the professional body most widely acknowledged by editors in the industry.
