{"id":375,"date":"2020-11-27T09:37:36","date_gmt":"2020-11-27T09:37:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/centreforjournalism\/?p=375"},"modified":"2021-04-15T15:45:31","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T14:45:31","slug":"big-night-of-success-for-cfj-graduates-at-kent-press-broadcast-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/centreforjournalism\/2020\/11\/27\/big-night-of-success-for-cfj-graduates-at-kent-press-broadcast-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Big night of success for CfJ graduates at Kent Press &amp; Broadcast Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">It was a big night of success for Kent\u2019s Centre for Journalism (CfJ) graduates at the annual Kent Press &#038; Broadcast Awards (KBPA) with two wins and a strong showing across all categories.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/108\/multimedia-journalism\">Multimedia Journalism MA<\/a> graduates <strong>Lizzie Massey<\/strong> and <strong>Brad Harper<\/strong> were each announced winners during a virtual awards ceremony for the county\u2019s media, streamed on Friday via Facebook and YouTube.<\/p>\n<p>Lizzie won the award for \u2018Best Use of Digital Media\u2019 and Brad was named \u2018Kent New Journalist of the Year.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Lizzie graduated from Kent in 2012 and is now a broadcast journalist for BBC South East. The judges said of her work: \u2018\u201dLizzie is fresh, engaging and knowledgeable, she matches the content for the appropriate channel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brad graduated from CfJ last year and currently works as a reporter for The Kentish Gazette and Kent Online. The judges said: \u201cBrad was a stand-out winner, he covers a great breadth of stories, sensitively written, as well as creating newsy, undercover stuff we really wanted to read.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was also a great night for CfJ alumnus <strong>Joe Coshan<\/strong> who was Highly Commended in two categories: \u2018Kent Sports Journalist of the Year\u2019; and \u2018Kent Feature Journalist of the Year (Broadcast)\u2019. Joe graduated from CfJ with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/undergraduate\/105\/journalism\">Journalism BA<\/a> in 2018 and is now Assistant Editor for KMTV (Kent&#8217;s local TV station). The judges praised \u201chis energy and excitement\u201d and said he was \u201cgood at getting something out of nothing. His work is clever, thoughtful and creative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Journalism BA graduate (2018)<strong> Isabelle Miller<\/strong> &#8211; now working at KMTV &#8211; made the shortlist for \u2018Kent New Journalist of the Year\u2019 and Journalism BA graduate (2017) <strong>Andy Robinson<\/strong> &#8211; now working at Ferrari Press Agency &#8211; was shortlisted for \u2018Best Use of Digital Media\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Staff from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/journalism\/kmtv\">KMTV<\/a> (based on Kent\u2019s Medway campus) also scooped a number of awards: <strong>Mark Simmonite<\/strong> won Kent Media Innovation of the Year (for keeping the show on the road during lockdown whilst getting viewing figures up); and <strong>Katya Fowler<\/strong> was shortlisted in the \u2018Kent New Journalist of Year\u2019 category. Former KMTV journalist <strong>Josie Fowler<\/strong> won \u2018Broadcast Journalist of the Year\u2019<\/p>\n<p>CfJ was also delighted to see a win for KentOnline as \u2018Kent News Website of the Year\u2019 where Journalism BA graduate (2015) <strong>Amy Nickalls<\/strong> is Senior News Editor.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 140 entries were received across 15 categories for this year\u2019s KPBA.
