{"id":42,"date":"2020-04-08T11:07:29","date_gmt":"2020-04-08T10:07:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/cems\/?p=42"},"modified":"2020-04-09T15:53:53","modified_gmt":"2020-04-09T14:53:53","slug":"farewell-to-computing-professors-after-70-years-at-kent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/cems\/2020\/04\/08\/farewell-to-computing-professors-after-70-years-at-kent\/","title":{"rendered":"Farewell to Computing Professors after 70 years at Kent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday 6 April the School of Computing said goodbye to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentcomp-news\/2020\/04\/06\/farewell-to-professor-richard-jones\/\">Professor Richard Jones<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentcomp-news\/2020\/04\/07\/farewell-to-professor-simon-thompson\/\">Professor Simon Thompson<\/a>, who between them have worked at the University of Kent for more than seven decades. Simon joined Kent in 1983 and Dick has worked at the University since 1985.<\/p>\n<div>Head of School, Professor Peter Rodgers said: &#8216;We should not let this day pass without acknowledging that two giants of the School have their last day today.\u00a0They were here when I arrived over 20 years ago, and the School will be an odd place without them. Both have served the School and University in an impressive fashion, performing a myriad of roles both formal and informal. Both have been Head of School in interesting times, and performed the job in a way that I wish to emulate.
