A message from the Director of Division

Dear All,

Our Division’s all-staff email (cems-all@kent.ac.uk) is now live – it’s another new line of communication for us.

Many thanks for all your hard work over the past week to ensure that our students can complete this year. It’s been an incredible time, with changes happening every day as our University, Higher Education and the Government have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hot off the press is the announcement that REF 2021 has been put on hold (though the census date of 31 July 2020 is unchanged):

While the upheavals of the past week have been anything but easy, we should gain some confidence that we can adapt quickly when necessary. Working every day from home is a new experience – to turn my study into a reasonable working environment, many years’ accumulated junk had to go. For those with young children or persistent pets, days have become much more fragmented than usual! So please be kind to yourself and those around you: in these extraordinary times, no one should expect perfection. Yesterday, I came across the following good advice on working from home.

Finally, Gloria Gaynor’s “I will survive” is having a bit of a rebirth, in the form of many adaptations. Here’s one that a colleague sent me on the trials of teaching online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCe5PaeAeew

Take care, and best wishes

Peter
