Helping students find the next step – Tegan’s Story

Tegan graduated from The University of Kent in 2022 and has secured a place on the Library and Information Management MA team at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Tegan was connected with the SafetyNet+ scheme by The Careers and Employability Service.

 

 

Original Status: Before joining our Career Coaching support, Tegan was somewhat confident and had begun to look online to explore opportunities. However, Tegan had not yet submitted any
applications and had not yet decided what her next step was.

Support Provided: Tegan’s coach supported her with applications, working closely with Tegan to review her CV, personal statements, and LinkedIn to support progression through the recruitment
stages. Tegan was shortlisted for a number of interviews and was supported with preparation and a mock interview.

What Tegan Found Most Valuable: The feedback received on her CV was what Tegan valued the most, the suggestions helped her to rearrange how the information was presented to highlight
relevant experience, supporting her in receiving interview invitations.

How the Support Helped Tegan with her Confidence: Tegan now feels very confident and shared that she felt she would have secured a job, had she found the right one, instead she found the right
master’s course.

What Tegan Said About the Support: The application examples provided and links to job boards or recruitment agencies helped Tegan to identify and be interviewed for relevant roles. Tegan enjoyed the constant meetups with her coach and appreciated all the feedback and tips shared.
