{"id":2889,"date":"2017-06-01T08:34:59","date_gmt":"2017-06-01T07:34:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/brussels-news-events\/?p=2889"},"modified":"2017-06-22T08:37:17","modified_gmt":"2017-06-22T07:37:17","slug":"revisiting-the-battlefields-of-wwi-26-june-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/brussels-news-events\/2017\/06\/01\/revisiting-the-battlefields-of-wwi-26-june-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Revisiting the battlefields of WWI &#8211; 26 June 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<table width=\"650\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"650\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Revisiting the battlefields of WW1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>26 June 2017 | Cost per person \u20ac35<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">There are a limited number of places on a visit to the First World War battlefields around <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toerisme-ieper.be\/en\">Ypres<\/a> on <strong>Monday 26 June 2017<\/strong>, an area which experienced some of the most intense fighting of the war.\u00a0 During the day you will be guided by <strong>Dr Michael Palo<\/strong>, a history professor with detailed knowledge of the First World War.\u00a0 You will learn about the human cost as well as the political impact of the war, and discover how those experiences have shaped the Europe of today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0The trip will feature a visit to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inflandersfields.be\/\">In Flanders Field Museum<\/a> and several key sites that include:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toerisme-ieper.be\/item.php?itemno=323_324_334_349_362&amp;lang=EN\">Langemark<\/a> | German military cemetery<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cwgc.org\/find-a-cemetery\/cemetery\/53300\/TYNE%20COT%20CEMETERY\">Tyne Cot<\/a> | The largest Commonwealth cemetery<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toerisme-ieper.be\/en\/page\/334-339-197\/menin-gate-.html\">Menin Gate<\/a> | The Last Post Ceremony was established in 1927 to honour fallen soldiers. It has taken place every evening at Menin Gate since then<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">You <strong>MUST<\/strong> register your interest by emailing Sophie Punt at <a href=\"mailto:summerschoolbrussels@kent.ac.uk\">summerschoolbrussels@kent.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">by <strong>Thursday 22 June\u00a02017 at 5pm\u00a0<\/strong>if you would like to attend.
