Ilf will talk on: The Role of Randomized Evaluations in Shaping Development Policies<\/p>\n
The event is primarily intended to International Development students but is open to anyone interested in public policies and research on their impact. So please join! For your information, and to stimulate your reflection, I’m attaching a piece by Angus Deaton, the latest winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics, which is a critique of randomised evaluations.<\/p>\n
Ilf’s talk will be structured as follows:
\n1.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Brief historical introduction on the use of randomized evaluations in social sciences
\n2.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Importance and difficulty of impact evaluation: what is impact? what are the different impact evaluation methods? what are the specificities of randomized evaluations?
\n3.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Building knowledge: examples of results that have had a huge influence on policy-making and on the way development policies are conceived and implemented
\n4.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Strengths and limitations of randomized evaluations: when to do and when NOT to do a randomized evaluation? what about their external validity?<\/p>\n
Ilf BENCHEIKH holds a Masters Degree in Political Studies from Paris Institute of Political Studies and a Master Degree in International Cooperation and Development Issues from Universit\u00e9 Paris-I Panth\u00e9on-Sorbonne. He has 15 years of working experience in various countries (Lebanon, Vietnam, Cambodia, Romania, France) and various types of working structures (French Cooperation, French-speaking Universities Agency, J-PAL).
\nIlf joined J-PAL in 2011 as the Deputy Director of the Europe office. He manages the administrative structure, serves as a resource for researchers and research teams, and helps to disseminate results to policymakers and the media. He is in charge of the training activities in Europe and Francophone Africa. He teaches a course on randomized impact evaluations at Paris Institute of Political Studies.<\/p>\n
