In his latest article entitled ‘The Pride and Shame of Being a Soldier’, PhD researcher Mark Gilks continues a dialogue with philosopher Laurel Scotland-Stewart in the Social Epistemology Review and Reply Collective.
The discussion centres around Gilks’ previous publication in Social Epistemology where he offered a phenomenological interpretation of Harry Parker’s (2016) war novel, Anatomy of a Soldier.
In this latest article, Gilks draws on the philosophy of Jean-Paul Sartre to discuss what Parker’s Anatomy of a Soldier can teach us about the emotions of shame and pride in war.
