Azmanova explains how precarity (not inequality) is the central driver of our current political, economic, and social woes. Blyth and Azmanova explore the roots of economic precarity, the reasons it’s more dangerous and destabilising than inequality alone, and why addressing it will require mixing tried-and-true economic policies with a radical rethinking of how our economy is structured.
“When we’re precarious, when we’re insecure, we long for security. Therefore all these radicalisations to the right are very logical, against expectations of the left that the so-called crisis of capitalism will bring a leftward shift.”
