Congratulations to new Dr Carina Lamont

“BSIS research student Carina Lamont passed her PhD viva (subject to formal confirmation from the University).

The title of Carina’s thesis is “In Search of a Normative Framework, jus post bellum for Effective, Purposive, and Sustainable Protection of Civilians in United Nations Peace Operations”. The examiners were Professor Stephen Allen (Queen Mary University) and Professor Wade Mansell of KLS, University of Kent.

The viva was, of course, conducted virtually because of the pandemic, and Carina was in her home in Sweden. The examiners agreed that the thesis clearly met the criteria for a PhD, and that it has implications for the control of UN peacekeeping forces. Carina responded superbly to the viva interrogation. Her supervisors were Professor Yutaka Arai and Professor Harm Schepel.

Thank you particularly to Mark Dean for facilitating the required technology.”

Words by Wade Mansell, Emeritus Professor.

Many congratulations to Carina who is pictured here with a homemade “laurel wreath” as per Swedish tradition.
