PhD researcher Abdullah Al-Jabassini participated at the European Workshops in International Studies (EWIS) at the University of Groningen between 6-9 June 2018.
Abdullah illustrated the relationship between Syria’s tribes and the consecutive authorities that ruled Syria between 1920 and 2018 (with the French Mandate 1920-46 , post-independence Syrian governments 1946-58, during the union with Egypt 1958-61, and during the Ba’ath Party rule 1963-2011.)
Also, Abdullah presented a chapter from his PhD dissertation ‘Civil Resistance to Rebel Organizations in Dar’a Province of Syria,” where he highlighted the emergence of rebel groups, rebel governance, the emergence of ISIS in Dar’a, and the role tribal leaders played between civilians and rebel leaders.
