In an commentary of the events in Spain for the Bulgarian National Television, Dr Azmanova announced that she has filed a complaint with the European Commission stating that the Spanish authorities, in their treatment of the Catalan referendum of 1 October, have violated the basic rights and freedoms protected by Art.2 of the EU Treaty. “This damages the quality of democracy in the European Union, and therefore affects me personally”, Dr Azmanova has stated in her complaint.
