Dr Amanda Klekowski von Koppenfels speaking at CEPS/ EUI event, 20th June, Brussels

DrĀ Amanda Klekowski von Koppenfels will be participating in a panel on socio-economic and demographic dynamics in the Euro-Med region at the Migration Policy Centre event, “Thinking beyond the crisis: Future governance of migration in Europe.”

Labour migration and mobility are, and will continue to be, key dynamics in the Euro-Mediterranean region. They are central to the social, economic and political development of the region. As a direct result, they are also key components of relations between the European Union, EU member states and countries in the Middle East and North Africa. The European Union needs therefore to devise a long-term comprehensive governance model.
This event, co-organised by the Migration Policy Centre (MPC) at the European University Institute (EUI) and the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS), will provide an opportunity to debate the future governance of migration in Europe.
The main issue that will be discussed is the role of human mobility for development on both sides of the Mediterranean. More specifically, the focus will be: Europe with or without migration; socio-demographic change in the Euro-Mediterranean region; the political dynamics of migration and mobility; the contributions of migration and its wider social, economic and political effects.
