Subject: [bsis-14] Alumni Guest Lecture – Hannah Cameron LLM International Law

Dear BSIS

I am delighted to announce that Hannah Cameron, an alumna who is currently working for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has offered to speak to BSIS students about the foundation and life after BSIS on Wed 14 Oct at 18h.

After graduating from Kent in 2006 with an LLM in International Law with International Relations, Hannah worked in the European Parliament and commercial lobbying, before joining the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as a member of their Global Policy & Advocacy Team.   The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was formed 15 years ago by Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft and his wife Melinda. The foundation spends over $3.6billion per year on grants to over 1000 partners working in the fields of global health and international development. The Gates Foundation has become a unique actor in international development and global health diplomacy as the largest philanthropic foundation in the world.

Hannah will talk about the work of the Gates Foundation and the unique role of philanthropy in global health and development. She’s then happy to answer questions on what it’s like to work at the Gates Foundation, her career path or whatever is of interest to the audience.

If you wish to attend, please register by email to bsis@kent.ac.uk before 9 October.  We are aware that this clashes with the LACIP lecture but this is the only time that Hannah is free.
