Academic staff changes at BSIS

Dear all,

I am delighted to let you know that Dr. Bojan Savic is joining BSIS on 1 August as Lecturer in International Relations. Bojan received a PhD from the University of Kent in 2012. He joins us from Elon University (US), where he was Assistant Professor. Before that he worked at Virginia Tech. Bojan’s research lies at the intersection of Critical Security Studies, International Development, and Critical Geopolitics. He has worked extensively on NATO. In the upcoming year Bojan will teach the following modules at BSIS: Foreign Policy Analysis, EU Politics and Governance and The Politics of International Development. He will also coordinate FDR.

As most of you know, Dr. Elise Feron is leaving the University of Kent to join the Tampere Peace Research Institute (Finland). For many years Elise was one of the pillars of BSIS, our conflict expert and a passionate teacher and researcher. I am sure that all students who took her classes will join me when I say that we will miss her dedication, expertise, efficient guidance and caring attitude very much. We regret to see such an excellent colleague leave but are happy to know that she will stay in close touch with BSIS.

Elise will be succeeded by Dr. Yvan Guichaoua, who is joining us from the University of East Anglia in mid-September. Equally a conflict expert, Yvan researches on collective political violence, the dynamics of irregular armed groups and informal governance in West Africa. He holds a PhD from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales. At BSIS he will convene the MA in International Conflict and Security and will teach the following modules in 2015-16: Conflict and Security, Theories of Violence and Conflict, and Development Theory and Practice.

A warm welcome to Bojan and Yvan and all the best for Elise in her new position.

Best regards,
Tom
