Statement on Planned Events for Friday, April 10

Dear all,

On behalf of the Student Union, please accept our apology for any confusion or frustrations felt with respect to the planned annual International Dinner. Let me preface the information below with a note on reimbursement for those who purchased tickets for the now cancelled dinner on April 10. All ticket purchases will be reimbursed at the earliest convenience, and are currently being processed by BSIS Finance. A few notes to clarify the dinner’s cancellation.

•    The International Dinner was cancelled because too few tickets were purchased, as costs for food, drink, venue, and DJ were thus not able to be covered.
•    At NO point were the sale of tickets a profit-generating event for the BGSU but only to cover the cost of the event.
•    Other dinners planned for the evening of the 10th are not sponsored by the Student Union. These were not solutions put forth by the Student Union as ‘alternate’ events, nor were they requiring or recipient of Student Union approval.
•    Objections to the International Dinner were primarily price-based. As such, let me clarify the 50 Euro price point for the event as:
o    First, the result of consultation with the student body 2 months previous to the event;
o    Second, in line with previous annual dinner prices at BSIS;
o    Third, priced in accordance with what the BGSU budget would allow so to cover the costs of venue, etc.

Moving forward…
For those interested in gathering, following the conclusion of the International Conference, the BGSU welcomes you to make your way over to the Sports Cafe where free drinks will be provided. The bar will be made available from lunch to evening, providing ample time for people to make there way over following the conclusion of the Conference and before other planned social events transpire later that evening.

Thank you, and looking forward to seeing you all at the Conference and Sports Cafe!

Kindly,

The Brussels Graduate Student Union
