Dissertation submission

Dear Politics students submitting Dissertations next week,

The deadline is Monday, August 4 at 12 noon (https://www.kent.ac.uk/brussels/current/practical/coursework.html?tab=dissertations&tab2=submission-dates). Dissertations should be uploaded to Moodle by this time. In case of technical difficulties, please email the dissertation to Francesca at ukoffice@kent.ac.uk by 12 noon.

Hard copies (2) are due in the office at the latest by close of business the FOLLOWING DAY, Tuesday, August 5. Any dissertations not submitted in hard copy by August 5 run the risk of not being able to be read by the examiners, possibly delaying your graduation date. Courier services (e.g. Fedex, DHL, etc.) do deliver to the office.

Please be advised that, if a concession application has not been submitted, any dissertations submitted online later than August 4 at 12 noon are likely to be capped at a mark of 40, although this is a decision that will be taken by the Board of Examiners in October.

The length of dissertations is 14,000 words. Several of you have asked about a range; as the guidelines state that the length of the dissertation is to be stated on the cover page to the nearest thousand, that would suggest an acceptable range from 13,501 to 14,499.

Following other queries by students, please read the following clarification on the amount of material from other work that a student may use in his /her dissertation:
Up to 10% of your dissertation may “recycle” language you have already used in previous work. If you should choose to re-use such material through cutting and pasting, please ensure this is clearly indicated, usually through referencing.

Hope that answers all of your last queries,

Best,
AKvK
