John Heieck participates in Transatlantic Dialogue on the Responsibility to Protect

On Wednesday, 2 July 2014, BSIS’s John Heieck participated in the “Transatlantic Dialogue on the Responsibility to Protect” in The Hague, The Netherlands.  The dialogue was organized by The Hague Institute for Global Justice and the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies, and involved more than twenty experts from law, academia, government, and civil society.  The dialogue included discussions on the ways in which to improve transatlantic consensus on the operationalization of the Responsibility to Protect norm, with the goal of producing a policy report designed to influence key stakeholders in Europe and North America to implement measures to prevent mass atrocity crimes, such as genocide.  The “Transatlantic Dialogue on the Responsibility to Protect” will meet again in Montreal, Canada later this year.
