Worried About Essays? SLAS Can Help!

Dear all,

As the term is now half finished, your welfare officers would like to remind you that there is essay planning and writing help available to you as you start to write your dissertation proposals and module assignments. The Canterbury campus offers academic help via the Student Learning Advisory Service (SLAS) which is open to ALL University of Kent students. To those September students who used the service, we hope you found it useful. Please feel free to provide us with feedback! January students, we encourage you to take a look at what this service can offer.

Here is a quick overview of how SLAS can help you:

SLAS will:
•              Help you plan your essay by discussing overall structure as well as paragraph/sentence structure
•              Help you with successful reading/note-taking techniques
•              Help you write in the UK academic style
•              Help you reference effectively  to avoid plagiarism
•              Help you with grammar, spelling and punctuation by examining a section of your writing

SLAS will not:
•              Discuss the academic content of a paper
•              Make judgments about your arguments and sources
•              Re-write any of your essay
•              Proof-read your essay
•              Correct citations and references across the entire document

Learning advisors are available to help BSIS students through email, phone, or Skype consultations. Use the information below to contact them. Keep in mind that in order to get as much out of the service as possible, you should contact them well in advance of deadlines.
