Those who profit from US security must accept its spying, argues Dr Azmanova in this week’s Financial Times: Chancellor’s Merkel’s protestations about the age-old and well-known practice of eavesdropping on the private communications of friendly leaders is hypocritical, and EU Commission officials’ putting to question the trans-Altantic bond on account of violations of the right to privacy is simply wreckless politics.
