International Criminal Law – Guest Lectures

Prof. Dr. Cedric Ryngaert, module convener for International Criminal Law, has two special guest lectures planned as part of his module. These lectures are open to all students within reason but we do ask that you let Inez Summers know if you wish to attend.

On Friday 22 February, 17.00-19.00, Judge David Re, Judge at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, will give a guest lecture on designing international criminal tribunals. In particular, he will discuss the advantages respectively drawbacks of atrocity trials in domestic courts, mixed/hybrid tribunals, and international criminal tribunals. Judge Re worked previously as a senior prosecuting trial attorney at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, and as an international judge of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina in its war crimes chamber in Sarajevo.

On Friday 1 March, 17.00-19.00, Prof. Luc Reydams will give a guest lecture on the role of the International Criminal Court in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Prof. Reydams is Associate Professional Specialist at the Department of Political Science of the University of Notre Dame (U.S.) and Professor of Law at the Catholic University of Lublin.
