{"id":767,"date":"2014-11-27T13:51:43","date_gmt":"2014-11-27T13:51:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\/?p=767"},"modified":"2014-12-03T15:29:19","modified_gmt":"2014-12-03T15:29:19","slug":"research-seminar-dissecting-cancer-heterogeneity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\/2014\/11\/27\/research-seminar-dissecting-cancer-heterogeneity\/","title":{"rendered":"Cancelled &#8211; Research Seminar: Dissecting cancer heterogeneity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Dr. Florian Markowetz, Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, University of Cambridge, Li Ka Shing Centre <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday 3rd December, 4.00 p.m., Stacey Lecture Theatre 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I will talk about computational methods to address heterogeneity of breast and ovarian cancer at different levels:<\/p>\n<p>(i) At the <b>*population*<\/b> level breast cancer appears in different subtypes and I will talk about our recent work on finding 10 different manifestations of the disease.<\/p>\n<p>(ii) At the <b>*patient*<\/b> level, different cancer sites can differ significantly in the genomic aberrations they carry. I will discuss how to quantify intra-patient heterogeneity by rigorous analysis of multiple patient samples.<\/p>\n<p>(iii) At the <b>*sample*<\/b> level we often find cancer cells mixed with immune cells, stromal cells and others. This mixture of cells leads to a mixture of signals when DNA, RNA, or proteins are measured in these samples.
