{"id":595,"date":"2014-04-25T09:19:20","date_gmt":"2014-04-25T09:19:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\/?p=595"},"modified":"2014-04-25T09:52:09","modified_gmt":"2014-04-25T09:52:09","slug":"international-genetics-conference-the-ethics-of-embryo-profiling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\/2014\/04\/25\/international-genetics-conference-the-ethics-of-embryo-profiling\/","title":{"rendered":"International Genetics Conference -The ethics of embryo profiling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\/files\/2014\/04\/image1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-596\" alt=\"image1\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\/files\/2014\/04\/image1.jpg\" width=\"165\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a>Ethical issues surrounding embryo profiling\u00a0will come under the spotlight at an international genetics conference at the University of Kent\u2019s Canterbury campus, 29 April-2 May.<\/p>\n<p>Other topics to be discussed at the Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis International Society\u00a0(PGDIS)\u00a0annual meeting include the impact of IVF on embryonic and long-term health and various aspects of whole genome\u00a0analysis\u00a0of IVF embryos.<\/p>\n<p>More than 300 experts from the field of preimplantation genetics are expected to attend the conference, with IVF pioneer Professor Sir Robert Winston giving the keynote address on 2 May.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/bio\/profiles\/staff\/griffin.html\">Darren Griffin, Professor of Genetics<\/a> at the University of Kent and conference organiser, said: \u2018PGD continues to be a controversial topic.
