{"id":2445,"date":"2020-05-07T14:55:19","date_gmt":"2020-05-07T13:55:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\/?p=2445"},"modified":"2020-05-07T14:55:19","modified_gmt":"2020-05-07T13:55:19","slug":"understanding-the-health-needs-in-south-east-asia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\/2020\/05\/07\/understanding-the-health-needs-in-south-east-asia\/","title":{"rendered":"Understanding the health needs in South East Asia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Dr Anastasios Tsaousis visited two developing countries in South East Asia recently, collecting data for his future research.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\/people\/653\/tsaousis-anastasios\">Dr. Anastasios Tsaousis<\/a> was awarded a Global Challenges Research Framework grant from the University of Kent providing funds to visit two developing countries in South East Asia. Dr. Tsaousis visited paediatric hospitals, slum areas and aboriginal tribes in Northern Bangladesh and Northern Thailand where he discussed the living conditions and the prevalence of various diseases with both locals and medical doctors. In addition, Dr. Tsaousis was able to collect epidemiological data and gain a better understanding of the research infrastructure and environment in both countries. Data collected from the visit will be used to support future and grant applications and will contribute to several manuscripts already in preparation.
