Last week, the School of Biosciences welcomed our new students, both undergraduate and postgraduate to the start of their University career.<\/p>\n
Biosciences stage 1 students started the week with a talk from the Deputy Head of School, Professor Dan Lloyd<\/a>.\u00a0 Prof Lloyd spoke about the start of their journey of discovery, which the School of Biosciences<\/a> hoped and believed would enable them to succeed and graduate having grown personally, in confidence, and developed skills and knowledge.<\/p>\n Following the welcome talk, the School organised a series of team building activities to \u00a0enable the students to meet their fellow course-mates including a lab based weighing task (without scales), the spaghetti marshmallow tower, a short quiz and speedy jigsaws followed by a pizza lunch on the lawn outside the Stacey building. Great fun was had by all, including the many staff that took part and organised the event.<\/p>\n A range of other welcome events were scheduled, including information regarding our Academic Advisor system, 1-1 meetings, an introduction to BioSoc our academic society, lab safety talks and programme director workshops.<\/p>\n Our postgraduate students started the week with coffee and cake which provided an opportunity to meet each other in a relaxed and friendly setting. A busy week followed with the welcome lecture, Postgraduate Symposium, Lab Health and Safety, finishing the week on a high with a social event in KBar on campus.<\/p>\n With the start of term underway, the School looks forward to welcoming all students back on campus at the School BBQ.<\/p>\n
