{"id":2326,"date":"2019-08-09T16:42:35","date_gmt":"2019-08-09T15:42:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\/?p=2326"},"modified":"2019-08-09T16:42:35","modified_gmt":"2019-08-09T15:42:35","slug":"research-student-receives-top-project-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\/2019\/08\/09\/research-student-receives-top-project-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Student Receives Top Project Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">A former Undergraduate in the School of Biosciences receives award from the Royal Society of Biology <\/p>\n<p>Alex Howard, a former Undergraduate student now completing his Master by Research in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\/people\/1027\/tullet-jennifer\">Tullet lab<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\">School of Biosciences,<\/a> received a \u2018Top Project Award from an Advanced Accredited Programme\u2019 for his performance in the sandwich year. Whilst undertaking his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/undergraduate\/263\/biomedical-science\">Biomedical Science degree<\/a> with a placement year in 2016-2017, Alex was based at Astex Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge.<\/p>\n<p>A placement year is taken between the second and final years. It provides an excellent opportunity to gain relevant work experience in industry in the UK or abroad. On completion of a placement year students produce an independent research project which counts towards their degree.<\/p>\n<p>Alex\u2019s project was titled \u201cEvaluating YAP-Dependent Signalling as a Potential Therapeutic Target in Breast Cancer\u201d.
