{"id":1443,"date":"2016-09-29T09:17:04","date_gmt":"2016-09-29T08:17:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\/?p=1443"},"modified":"2016-09-29T09:17:04","modified_gmt":"2016-09-29T08:17:04","slug":"research-seminar-a-life-in-pieces-fragments-for-drug-discovery-and-chemical-biology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/biosciences\/2016\/09\/29\/research-seminar-a-life-in-pieces-fragments-for-drug-discovery-and-chemical-biology\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Seminar:  A life in pieces: fragments for drug discovery and chemical biology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Professor Rod Hubbard,<\/b> <strong>York Structural Biology Lab (YSLB), University of York &amp; Vernalis (R&amp;D), Cambridge <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday 4th October, 4.00 p.m., Stacey Lecture Theatre 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Over the past 20 years, I have been involved in an increasing number of projects which have at their heart the binding of small chemical fragments to proteins.\u00a0 The research includes development of new computational and experimental methods but importantly the use of these approaches in drug discovery and chemical biology.<\/p>\n<p>In this talk, I will provide a very brief history of how these methods emerged and give a summary of the current practise in fragment based ligand discovery.
