Laura Petch, a final year PhD student in the Kent Fungal Group supervised by Mick Tuite, has been selected as a finalist in the 2019 Sir Howard Dalton Young Microbiologist of the Year competition. This award, made by the UK-based Microbiology Society, “…recognises and rewards excellence in science communication to a member presenting a poster or offered paper at the Society’s Annual Conference ….”
Laura presented her poster at this year’s Microbiology Society Annual Conference in Belfast. The poster was entitled “The impact of natural genetic variation on protein aggregation in Saccharomyces species”. In the final of the competition, to be held in September in London, Laura will give an oral presentation on her research.
This recognition bodes well for Laura’s planned career in teaching after she finishes her PhD studies.
