Historian unveils a plaque to mark the life of pioneering Kent suffragist and women\u2019s campaigner Amelia Scott.<\/p>\n

Dr Anne Logan, of the University\u2019s\u00a0School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research,<\/a>unveiled the plaque on the outside of Amelia Scott\u2019s former home in Southborough near Tunbridge Wells on 16 August.<\/p>\n

Amelia Scott, who was born in 1860 and died in 1952, helped establish amenities for working women and girls in Tunbridge Wells, including the establishment of a social club and the provision of a women\u2019s lodging house.<\/p>\n

She was also vice-president of the town\u2019s National Union of Women\u2019s Suffrage Societies, and one of the first two women to be elected to the? Tunbridge Wells Town Council in 1919.<\/p>\n

Dr Logan, a senior lecturer in social history, has carried out extensive research into Amelia Scott\u2019s life and was invited to unveil the plaque by the\u00a0Southborough Society<\/a>\u00a0who commissioned it.<\/p>\n
