{"id":520,"date":"2018-03-05T09:18:55","date_gmt":"2018-03-05T09:18:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/aspirations\/?p=520"},"modified":"2018-03-05T09:18:55","modified_gmt":"2018-03-05T09:18:55","slug":"politics-art-and-resistance-new-free-mooc-module","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/aspirations\/2018\/03\/05\/politics-art-and-resistance-new-free-mooc-module\/","title":{"rendered":"Politics, Art and Resistance \u2013 New Free MOOC Module"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">POLIR academics offer free online module with platform Future Learn<\/p>\n<p>Dr\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/politics\/staff\/canterbury\/mackenzie.html\">Iain MacKenzie<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/politics\/staff\/canterbury\/rossbach.html\">Dr Stephan Rossbach<\/a>\u00a0from the School of Politics and International Relations are offering a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mooc.org\/\">MOOC<\/a>\u00a0(Massive Online Open Course) on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurelearn.com\/courses\/politics-art-resistance#section-overview\">Politics, Art and Resistance<\/a>\u00a0via the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurelearn.com\/\">Future Learn<\/a>\u00a0platform.<\/p>\n<div>The four week course starts on April 16, and is\u00a0<strong>FREE.<\/strong>\u00a0You can register for the course\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurelearn.com\/courses\/politics-art-resistance#section-dates\">here<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The course is open to everyone with an interest in politics, art or resistance. As part of the course, participants will be invited to submit an image of \u2018what resistance means to them\u2019, and the images will be collected in order to create a photo mosaic, which will be on display at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/visit\/tate-modern\">TATE Modern<\/a>\u00a0as part of a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/visit\/tate-modern\/tate-exchange\">TATE Exchange\u00a0<\/a>workshop later in the year. The course offers the chance to explore how art movements have inspired political\u00a0activism by introducing ideas and practices of resistance, and the relationship between art and politics.<\/div>\n<div>\n<section id=\"section-overview\" class=\"a-section\">\n<div id=\"course-outline\" class=\"a-content a-content--tight\">\n<div class=\"a-text-context\">\n<p>You\u2019ll explore:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the socially engaged practices of artists, and how art movements have inspired ordinary people<\/li>\n<li>art manifestos, and how to develop your own manifesto<\/li>\n<li>how creative practices connect with social and political issues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"section-topics\" class=\"a-section a-section--alt-adjacent\">\n<div class=\"a-content\">\n<p class=\"a-heading a-heading--small a-heading--before-block u-responsive-alignment\">and the topics<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is \u2018resistance\u2019?<\/li>\n<li>The relationship between art and politics<\/li>\n<li>Writing to resist: The art of the manifesto<\/li>\n<li>Life as a work of art<\/li>\n<li>Styles of resistance<\/li>\n<li>Resistance and Utopia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This is a new form of online teaching, funded by the University, which allows the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/politics\/\">School of Politics and International Relations<\/a>\u00a0to bring our teaching to a large online audience.
