{"id":1191,"date":"2018-11-15T09:15:57","date_gmt":"2018-11-15T09:15:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/aspirations\/?p=1191"},"modified":"2018-11-22T11:07:18","modified_gmt":"2018-11-22T11:07:18","slug":"peacebuilding-in-colombia-summer-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/aspirations\/2018\/11\/15\/peacebuilding-in-colombia-summer-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Peacebuilding in Colombia &#8211;\u00a0Summer Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Peacebuilding in Colombia 2019<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Universidad de Los Andes Academic Summer Course<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Red Tree Study Scholarship Funding<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Red Tree Study is offering scholarship funding of $3,900 USD for participation in the Peacebuilding in Colombia<br \/>\nAcademic Summer Course run by Universidad de Los Andes from Monday 10 June \u2013 Friday 28 June 2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The application deadline is Wednesday 12 December 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;Armed Conflict, Peace Processes and the Challenges of Peacebuilding in Colombia<\/strong>&#8216;, is a three-week program<br \/>\nrun by the university\u2019s Political Science department. It will explore the recent history of the Colombian conflict and the<br \/>\nchallenges of implementing the current peace process.<br \/>\nNow entering its fourth year, the course combines lectures and seminars taught by academics from Los Andes with<br \/>\neducational site visits that deliver practical knowledge of the political and social situation in Colombia. In previous<br \/>\nyears, students have spoken to ex-combatants about the challenges of reintegration, have met with President Santos\u2019<br \/>\nCommunications team to discuss the influence of public opinion on the peace negotiations, visited the UN<br \/>\nDevelopment Project, the Center for Transitional Justice, the Colombian Congress, and the Reparation of Victims Unit,<br \/>\nfor example. They have taken part in a trip to the demobilization zone in Icononzo where students spent the day with<br \/>\nformer FARC combatants and the UN representatives managing the camp. The 2019 course will include many of the<br \/>\nsame excursions, although the exact content may be altered to reflect the policies of recently elected President Duque<br \/>\nand any further developments in the peace process.<\/p>\n<p>The program includes a private room in supervised accommodation in Los Andes student residence, an airport pickup<br \/>\non arrival, and a calendar of social and cultural activities for evenings and weekends, designed to help students explore<br \/>\nColombia as much as possible whilst they are there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scholarship information<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 $3,900 USD will either be awarded as one full scholarship or two 50% scholarships of $1950 USD each.
