House of Commons BAME Graduate Internship Programme: Three 12-month paid internships starting November 2018.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

As part of the House of Commons\u2019 efforts to reflect the diversity of the UK\u2019s population, the House is offering an internship programme for recent graduates from BAME backgrounds. The aim of this 12-month programme is to provide work experience, employability support and guidance to individuals from communities that are currently under-represented in the House of Commons\u2019 graduate level workforce. The programme is advertised under section 158 of the Equality Act 2010<\/p>\n

The Programme is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to secure full-time graduate level positions in Parliament on completion of the Programme. You\u2019ll be performing public administrative duties that require a broad spectrum of skills and knowledge and above all passion for public service and government.<\/p>\n

While you may feel that you do not have direct experience of the types of work described in the job descriptions, your particular experiences may be highly relevant if they have given you the capacity to develop the required skills. If appointed, you will be supported in developing specific skills and knowledge that are required for these roles. You are not expected to know everything about the work of Parliament or know how to perform unfamiliar tasks without some training, support, and supervision in the early stages.<\/p>\n

There are three, 12-month, paid internships on offer starting on 1 November 2018.\u00a0 Two will be based in the Chamber and Committees Team (CCT), supporting the work of Select Committee inquiries. These roles will require well-developed research and report writing skills as well as the ability to learn and adapt to procedures.\u00a0 The other role will be based in the Members\u2019 Hub which supports MPs by providing corporate services (e.g. HR, facilities, transport, expenses etc). This role requires someone with an interest in public administration, HR, Change Management or Project Management.<\/p>\n

Application Process<\/strong><\/p>\n

Step is managing the application and initial selection process on behalf of the Authority. Interested candidates will need to\u00a0register with Step<\/a>\u00a0and then apply to one of the internship roles being offered through the Programme.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Each role is very different and is looking for a different skillset. Your application will only be considered for either the Inquiry Manager OR the Hub Manager, not both. Please read the person specifications fully and ensure that your application addresses the skills required.<\/p>\n

The closing date for applications is Friday 13 July 2018, although you should submit your application as early as possible.<\/p>\n

Successful candidates will need to complete a comprehensive security check in order to gain full access to parliament.<\/p>\n
