OXFAM Canterbury – Volunteers Wanted

On Tuesday 22 May, your local Oxfam shop in Best Lane (CT1 2JB) is holding an event called ‘A Day in the Life of a Volunteer’.

Choose to experience a variety of roles including Sorting, Marketing & Social Media, Shop Floor Tasks and more.

Pop in anytime from 10am to 2pm to have a look around, ask some questions and experience life as an Oxfam volunteer.

The Careers and Employability Service – How Can We Help?

Quick Advice Sessions: Book a 15 minute slot for feedback on CV’s, application forms, cover letters and personal statements and advice on job hunting and interviews … available during the following times: Monday-Friday 10.30am-12.30pm and 2:00pm-4:00pm.

Individual Career Appointments: These offer students 30-45 minutes per session to discuss their career options (employment, further study, etc) in more depth or to seek advice on any issues related to their future career. They are open to all students, at any stage of their studies, and also to recent graduates. These appointments should be booked in advance by calling in to the CES building, by phone or online through Target Connect (see below).

Careers and Employability Events: We run a range of talks, workshops and presentations throughout the academic year. The highlight is the Employability Festival in Autumn Term, which involves more than 250 hours of events spread over two weeks, including the annual Careers Fair. These events are listed on the University calendar and can be booked online through Target Connect

Employability Schemes: The University offers numerous schemes to help students gain work experience and build their employability skills. Careers Award: Students can gain this award through completing quizzes and short assignments online on Moodle. It improves career planning, CV and job hunting skills, helps with career choice and improves students’ chances of getting a graduate-level job. Work Experience Bursary Scheme:  This supports students undertaking unpaid work experience by offering bursaries starting from £100 to contribute towards travel expenses for up to 3 weeks/120 hours. www.kent.ac.uk/employability/working/students/bursary-and-expenses.html

Work Experience Bursary Scheme – Funds Still Available!

Are you planning or have you recently undertaken some unpaid work experience?

Or have you attended a training event that will help you in your future career?

You could be entitled to up to £250 towards the cost of out-of-pocket expenses!

The B-KEW bursary is a great opportunity for students to claim back money on travel expenses or for uniform, whilst undertaking unpaid work experience (for the first three weeks or 120 hours of work) or for a training event.
