Casting call – actors needed for short student film
Aidan L. Hiltermann is a student in Introduction to Filmmaking. He is making a short film and is in need of extras to fill out minor roles. A few students will say a few lines and act for perhaps a few seconds, but most only need to sit in a chair or walk. Later, you will be asked to do some recording because the film goes inside the characters’ minds to see what they’re thinking. Aidan and his group will be filming at the Jarman Building on Saturday and Sunday the 24th and 25th at 1:00. They ask anyone who can come to wear clothes that are plain i.e. no words or pictures if possible. The team is not able to offer payment but will be providing chocolate and other such sweets for all who show up. Please contact Aidan at ah708@kent.ac.uk if you have any questions.
Call for actors for a short film
Zoe Langhorn is a first-year media studies student, who is currently making a short film. The film is about a girl getting a message from someone online whom she has no interest in and politely says she’s not interest – however, had already told him where she was going out to that evening. Leading onto him turning up at the club and giving her a date rape drug.
The film is being created to show awareness for sexual assault and safety and will be focussing on what can be done to keep people safe.
Zoe is looking for a male and possibly female actor to play the two main parts aged between 18-24 as well as needing extras to play the other people in the club.
The roles are unpaid but are a great opportunity for experience. The film will also all be taking place on campus so no travelling will be needed.

Ask about support and what relationships/contacts they have developed during study and, find out what challenges there may be to overcome.

Designing a Research Proposal or Master’s Application

This workshop is aimed at students who are putting together a Master’s application or research proposals for PhD projects. We will consider what a good application/proposal needs, examine some examples of successful applications/proposals, and consider some tips and tricks from successful applicants. Participants should bring along their draft applications (if you have already started), as there will be an opportunity to work on these in the session. The workshop will provide a supportive, interactive work space for participants who are designing their own projects.

1. identify the appropriate and best alternative funding bodies for them
2. find these bodies via books and the internet
3. apply strongly and in the correct fashion.

Volunteers needed for performance at Turner Contemporary – 16 September
Turner Contemporary are looking for volunteers to get involved in a performance by contemporary artist Bronwen Buckeridge at the Turner Contemporary in Margate this Sunday (16 September).
The performance doesn’t require any special skills and involves performing some simple actions for about half an hour at 1pm and attending a briefing at 10am on the day.
The work is called Cast and was originally performed at Peckham library for Hmmn 12. This a new version adapted for the architecture of the Turner Contemporary and the landscape around the gallery. During the performance the artist will be stationed on the balcony inside the gallery and will make a telephone call to a group of ravens and their keeper, which she will ask to describe the movements of the birds around him. These movements will be translated into a series of signals which in turn will trigger certain actions from volunteers stationed in the building and outside on the seafront. The idea is that the ravens take control of our environment for the period of the telephone call and are ‘cast’ onto the surrounding landscape. It might be quite slow moving or it may become quite chaotic, that all depends on the birds!
Bronwen’s performance is part of PEST, a day of performances and screenings at the Turner Contemporary exploring our co-habitation with other species, in particular those seen as pests or strays, relegated to the edges of human society. More information on the day is available here.

Young London 2018: Volunteer Programme
V22 are offering a Volunteer Programme of 1 – 3 days per week from early September – early November, with the option to extend (London transport and lunch expenses paid).
V22 is an art organisation, with a shared ownership structure, which specialises in the collection of contemporary art, the production of exhibitions, events and educational initiatives, and the provision of affordable artists’ studios and artisans’ workshops. A key element to the programme will be supporting V22 in the installation and management of its large-scale exhibition: Young London 2018. This exhibition will be the fourth instalment in the series, and will be held in a brand new artist neighbourhood: V22 Silvertown Studios. The exhibition runs from 21 September – 4 November.
Alongside gaining experience in the day-to-day running of an exhibition, volunteers will be assigned research projects, based around the future activities of V22, with our weekly Friday events providing an opportunity to gain some experience in events production. We tailor the programme to suit the participants’ individual strengths and ambitions, with scope for additional specialisation in areas of personal interest. Tasks will include (but not limited to):
– Production assistance for install
– Bar staff
– Invigilating
– Marketing/PR
– Artist assistance
– Exhibition management
Curated by Rowan Geddis, Young London 2018 continues V22’s plan for regular large-scale exhibitions of London’s next generation of emerging artists. Young London 2018 will present both new and recent works, many being commissioned and/or site specific. Reflecting shifts in art practice and emerging artists’ changing needs, the exhibition embodies a rethinking of format and acknowledges the increasingly disparate ways in which art practices develop, find form, and shift between fields. A multi-disciplinary show, Young London 2018 includes performance, video, film, sculpture, installation and painting and takes place in the new V22 Silvertown Studios.

Candidates must have an interest in contemporary art, excellent organisational skills and a friendly and dedicated disposition.

10 Minute Dance Parties
JOF has toured all over the world, and his 10 Minute Dance Parties takes place inside a shipping container. The Gulbenkian are looking for young people aged 10-19 to collaborate with JOF as DJs, lighting/sounds technicians, dance artists, party people, and music enthusiasts to make 10 Munute Dance Partes at bOing! 2018 as incredible as possible! It is free to be a part of 10 Minute Dance Parties – attend workshop sessions on Thursday 23 August 11.30am-3.30pm, and on Friday 24 August 11.30am-1.00pm. You will also need to be available for at least one day of bOing! on Sat 25 and Sun 26 August.
