{"id":5012,"date":"2021-12-14T11:08:52","date_gmt":"2021-12-14T11:08:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/?p=5012"},"modified":"2021-12-14T12:04:52","modified_gmt":"2021-12-14T12:04:52","slug":"supporting-success-pia-mitchell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/2021\/12\/14\/supporting-success-pia-mitchell\/","title":{"rendered":"Supporting student success in the workshop: Pia Mitchell&#8217;s tree"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>\u201cSam from the workshop massively helped with this project; without him it simply would not have been possible.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>From a seedling to a tree&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Pia Mitchell is a third year <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/undergraduate\/114\/drama-and-theatre\">BA Drama and Theatre<\/a> student, working on the Community and Participatory Theatre module. Together with workshop manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/people\/1252\/westbury-sam\">Sam Westbury<\/a>, Pia has created this magnificent tree prop.<\/p>\n<p>The tree has been used for an installation project for school children at the The Gulbenkian. \u201cOur performance is made for a group of young children from a local school that we have spent the last six weeks running workshops for. The final performance is to celebrate the work that we have done with the children.\u201d It was then featured in Things I Know To Be True, play Pia produced with the <a href=\"https:\/\/kentunion.co.uk\/activities\/t24-drama\">T24<\/a> drama society.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cImaginative designs are the bedrock of what we do and we are always looking to push the student&#8217;s creativity.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>After working out the project\u2019s requirements, Pia was able to utilize Sam\u2019s experience in prop design and prop making to create the supersized tree. Sam said: \u201cShe came to me with a concept and we worked together on coming up with a design that would fit into the small budget but that would look really impressive on stage.
