{"id":5006,"date":"2021-12-06T14:50:00","date_gmt":"2021-12-06T14:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/?p=5006"},"modified":"2021-12-07T11:12:33","modified_gmt":"2021-12-07T11:12:33","slug":"students-adapt-invisible-squares-exhibition-for-free-campus-show-6-17-dec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/2021\/12\/06\/students-adapt-invisible-squares-exhibition-for-free-campus-show-6-17-dec\/","title":{"rendered":"Students adapt Invisible Squares exhibition for free campus show (6-17 Dec)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"article__content\">\n<p>Students in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\">School of Arts<\/a> enjoyed the opportunity to install a traveling art exhibition by leading Italian photographers in the Canterbury campus\u2019 Studio 3 Gallery.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/artistry\/2021\/12\/01\/le-piazze-invisibili-invisible-squares\/\">free exhibition<\/a>, taking place from 6 \u2013 17 December 2021 and from 17 January \u2013 18 February 2022, has been adapted from Marco Delogu\u2019s \u2018Le Piazze [In]visibili (Invisible Squares)\u2019 by students studying the Master\u2019s in Curating.<\/p>\n<p>Invisible Squares is inspired by the impact of Italy\u2019s first lockdown during 2020, when curator Marco Delogu coordinated a team of forty photographers and writers to document the nation\u2019s temporarily empty public squares.<\/p>\n<p>The project challenged the artists during lockdown as they were only able to be outside with permission.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition\u2019s catalogue includes an essay by architectural historian Joseph Rykwert, who notes that while lockdown impoverished Italy\u2019s piazzas it also provided a rare opportunity to \u2018see their complex geometries, their bare bones, and therefore their very structure\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is an initiative of Italy\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and is shown at the University of Kent thanks to the generosity of the Italian Cultural Institute in London.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/people\/545\/thomas-ben\">Dr Ben Thomas, Reader in Art History<\/a> and organiser of the exhibition at Kent said: \u2018I am grateful to the Italian Cultural Institute for lending this excellent exhibition to the University of Kent which provides an inspiring insight into the beauty and resilience of Italian culture.
