{"id":4662,"date":"2021-05-11T12:25:30","date_gmt":"2021-05-11T11:25:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/?p=4662"},"modified":"2021-05-11T12:25:30","modified_gmt":"2021-05-11T11:25:30","slug":"digital-access-to-arts-and-culture-beyond-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/2021\/05\/11\/digital-access-to-arts-and-culture-beyond-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital Access to Arts and Culture Beyond Covid-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Senior Lecturer in Film, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/people\/534\/misek-richard\">Dr Richard Misek<\/a>, has recently launched his new research project, &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/institute-cultural-creative-industries\/projects\/digital-access\">Digital Access to Arts and Culture beyond Covid-19<\/a>&#8216; which which will explore widening access to arts and culture through streaming video.<\/p>\n<p>Since the global spread of COVID-19, video streaming has emerged as perhaps the most popular and effective tool for maintaining access to arts and culture. Live streamed concerts, online film festivals, virtual gallery tours, Zoom-based performances and workshops, and countless other innovations in digital programming have helped physically-sited arts and culture institutions stay \u2018open\u2019, and provided locked-down audiences with desperately needed opportunities for cultural engagement and shared experience.<\/p>\n<p>The recent outpouring of creative alternatives to physically-sited events has also lifted former geographic and economic constraints on who can access arts and culture. The lessons being learnt through current crisis-driven innovations in digital delivery could \u2013 if gathered, consolidated, and channelled into sector-wide discussion and action \u2013 help provide arts and culture organisations with the resilience and agility needed to adapt their business models to a post-COVID landscape.
