{"id":3829,"date":"2020-06-29T13:06:19","date_gmt":"2020-06-29T12:06:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/?p=3829"},"modified":"2020-06-29T13:06:19","modified_gmt":"2020-06-29T12:06:19","slug":"alumna-samantha-edgley-produces-online-series-the-greats-of-british-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/2020\/06\/29\/alumna-samantha-edgley-produces-online-series-the-greats-of-british-art\/","title":{"rendered":"Alumna Samantha Edgley produces online series \u2018The Greats of British Art\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alumna Samantha Edgley, who studied her undergraduate in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/subjects\/history-of-art\">Department of Art History<\/a>, has produced an online series of art history videos on the theme of \u2018The Greats of British Art\u2019 for the Medway Adult Education Centre and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/medwaycouncil\/videos\">Medway Council&#8217;s YouTube channel<\/a>, focusing on the Georgian and Victorian period.<\/p>\n<p>After completing her undergraduate degree, Samantha completed a Masters in \u2018History of Art and Visual Culture\u2019 at the University of Oxford, before taking a role as Art History and Art Appreciation Tutor at the Rochester Adult Education Centre. The series continues her work to share a passion for art during the COVID-19 lockdown.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It was a totally new project for me, and one that I have really enjoyed working on,\u2019 explains Samantha. \u2018I believe that during difficult times art becomes more essential than ever. It is important to continue to engage with visual culture even when the usual routes (such as museums and galleries) may be closed to us.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>So far Samantha has posted seven videos from a series of ten episodes. Each video is roughly ten minutes in length. Topics include <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/iIcM_vpja7g\">William Hogarth<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/iB4h7YqJDF4\">Sir Joshua Reynolds<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/zZeAaqUr9FY\">George Stubbs<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/nFyqNoGScoI\">Katharine Read<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/vqJ35CYjKc8\">William Blake<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/0PgD5w7F0AI\">JMW Turner<\/a>.
