Luke Carver, third year History & Philosophy of Art student, has been awarded the prestigious Goldsmiths AHRC Studentship and will begin the Cultural Studies MA programme this autumn. The AHRC scholarship is a grant that will cover Luke\u2019s tuition and living costs for a year and is designed to help him prepare for a PhD.<\/p>\n
\u2018I decided to apply to the Cultural Studies MA programme at Goldsmiths because I want to recontextualize everything I\u2019ve learnt whilst studying the history and philosophy of art and place it into a broader cultural context. As well as looking at art theory and philosophy, I\u2019ll also be exposed to a great deal of social and political theory. This is something I touched on whilst studying at Kent and I\u2019m really looking forward to exploring further.<\/em><\/p>\n Eventually I\u2019d like to combine all that I\u2019ve learnt at Kent with what I will learn at Goldsmiths to pursue a career in curating. I believe the mix of art theory and cultural understanding will really lend itself to exploring pertinent cultural issues through different forms of presentation.<\/em><\/p>\n Although I am of course excited about my future in London, I\u2019m also sad to be leaving the University of Kent. Had it not been for the funding opportunity I would have stayed to study my MA here as I know first-hand that the course is one of the best in the country.\u00a0 I can honestly say that the last three years of my life have been the best. It\u2019s been challenging but also incredibly rewarding and i\u2019ve learnt more than I could have possibly imagined. The passionate and dedicated staff have been an inspiration and made studying here a real pleasure. \u00a0I hope to return to Kent frequently to attend all of the great aesthetic conferences and to keep in touch with the friends I\u2019ve made.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
