For this particular episode, the author and journalist <a href=\"https:\/\/dollyalderton.com\/about\/\">Dolly Alderton<\/a> chose Hollywood actress <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dorisday.com\/\">Doris Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The instalment draws upon Tamar\u2019s research expertise on the actress. Her book <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbury.com\/uk\/doris-day-confidential-9781848855823\/\"><em>Doris Day Confidential: Hollywood, Sex and Stardom<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0<\/em>(Bloomsbury, 2013) examines the star\u2019s reputation for innocence and virginity, even though both Day\u2019s personal life, and the roles she depicted, suggest a woman of maturely sexual desires.<\/p>\n<p>Day did not originally intend to sing or act. In the episode, Tamar reveals some of her background: \u2018Doris\u2019s first ambition was to be a dancer, and she was quite well advanced in that even as a child. She was dancing professionally by the time she was 13 when she had a horrible car crash.
