{"id":3083,"date":"2019-11-16T12:00:55","date_gmt":"2019-11-16T12:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/?p=3083"},"modified":"2019-11-15T18:11:35","modified_gmt":"2019-11-15T18:11:35","slug":"registration-open-for-art-aesthetics-and-the-medical-and-health-humanities-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/2019\/11\/16\/registration-open-for-art-aesthetics-and-the-medical-and-health-humanities-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Registration open for Art, Aesthetics and the Medical and Health Humanities conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Registration is now open for the <a href=\"https:\/\/british-aesthetics.org\/\">British Society of Aesthetics<\/a> Conference: Art, Aesthetics and the Medical and Health Humanities, which will be hosted by the School of Arts at the University of Kent from Friday 7 February to Sunday 9 February 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Sponsored by the\u00a0British Society of Aesthetics\u00a0and hosted by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/aesthetics-research.org\/\">Aesthetics Research Centre<\/a>, the conference will bring together Analytic Aesthetics and the Medical and Health Humanities. The conference aims to stimulate conversations about the connections art and aesthetics have with medicine, medical education, healthcare and the advancement of health and wellbeing. The conference has been organised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/people\/academic-staff\/declercq.html\">Dr Dieter Declercq<\/a>, Lecturer in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/film.html\">Film<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/media.html\">Media<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/people\/academic-staff\/newall.html\">Dr Michael Newall<\/a>, Senior Lecturer in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/hpa.html\">History of Art,<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/people\/academic-staff\/shaughnessy.html\">Professor Nicola Shaughnessy<\/a>, Professor of Performance in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/drama.html\">Department of Drama and Theatre.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Keynote talks will be delivered by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sps.columbia.edu\/faculty\/rita-charon\">Professor Rita Charon<\/a>\u00a0(Columbia University),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nottingham.ac.uk\/healthsciences\/people\/paul.crawford\">Professor Paul Crawford<\/a>\u00a0(University of Nottingham),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bucknell.edu\/academics\/arts-and-sciences-college-of\/academic-departments-and-programs\/philosophy\/faculty-and-staff\/sheila-lintott\">Professor Sheila Lintott<\/a>\u00a0(Bucknell University), and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uc.academia.edu\/JeneferRobinson\">Professor Jenefer Robinson<\/a>\u00a0(University of Cincinnati), alongside confirmed responses from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/history\/people\/382\/anderson-julie\">Dr Julie Anderson<\/a>\u00a0(University of Kent),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/english\/staff\/bolaki.html\">Dr Stella Bolaki<\/a>\u00a0(University of Kent),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/warwick.ac.uk\/fac\/soc\/philosophy\/people\/john\/\">Dr Eileen John<\/a>\u00a0(University of Warwick) and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ahc.leeds.ac.uk\/philosophy\/staff\/81\/matthew-kieran\">Professor Matthew Kieran<\/a>\u00a0(University of Leeds).<\/p>\n<p>Panel sessions will feature presentations by more than 50 scholars, artists and health professionals from across the world.<\/p>\n<p>The conference also includes a Friday evening performance at the <a href=\"https:\/\/thegulbenkian.co.uk\/\">Gulbenkian Theatre<\/a> by theatre company <a href=\"https:\/\/playingon.org.uk\/wordpress\/\">Playing ON<\/a>, who present <em>Can I Help You?; a <\/em>magical realist examination of the role race and gender have to play in mental health and suicide. The Saturday evening features a stand-up comedy show at <a href=\"https:\/\/thegulbenkian.co.uk\/\">The Gulbenkian Caf\u00e9<\/a> including comedians <a href=\"http:\/\/www.matthosscomedy.com\/\">Matt Hoss<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/davechawner.co.uk\/\">Dave Chawner<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chelseabirkby.com\/\">Chelsea Birkby<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.julietteburton.co.uk\/\">Juliette Burton<\/a>, who will explore health and wellbeing on stage.<\/p>\n<p>The registration fee for the conference is \u00a3125\/\u00a390 concessions, and includes meals and refreshments.
