{"id":3057,"date":"2019-11-09T15:31:27","date_gmt":"2019-11-09T15:31:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/?p=3057"},"modified":"2019-11-15T12:06:30","modified_gmt":"2019-11-15T12:06:30","slug":"jessica-hynes-to-give-ida-lupino-lecture-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/2019\/11\/09\/jessica-hynes-to-give-ida-lupino-lecture-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Jessica Hynes to give Ida Lupino Lecture 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The School of Arts is delighted to welcome acclaimed British actress, writer and director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0828961\/\">Jessica Hynes<\/a> to give The Ida Lupino Lecture 2019 on Wednesday 13 November at 5pm in Grimond Lecture Theatre 3.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica\u2019s many credits for TV and film include <em>Spaced, Tomorrow La Scala!, Up the Women, Twenty Twelve, W1A<\/em> (BAFTA winner, 2015)<em>, There She Goes<\/em> (BAFTA winner, 2019)<em>, Years and Years<\/em> and her recent debut feature film <em>The Fight<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The Ida Lupino Lecture is an opportunity to celebrate and underline Kent\u2019s links with women filmmakers, by formalising Kent\u2019s profile, and identity, as a place for women filmmakers. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0526946\/\">Ida Lupino<\/a> (1918-95) was a pioneering woman filmmaker who achieved the unlikely feat of being a writer-director-producer-star hyphenate in male-dominated Studio-era Hollywood. Her noted films include <em>High Sierra, Never Fear, Outrage, On Dangerous Ground, The Hitch-Hiker, The Bigamist<\/em> and <em>Junior Bonner<\/em>. In 2015 the School of Arts named its new cinema, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/timetabling\/rooms\/room.html?room=LScr\">Lupino<\/a>, after her.<\/p>\n<p>Film at Kent has had links with women filmmakers both in its film practice staff, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/people\/academic-staff\/barnard.html\">Clio Barnard<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/people\/academic-staff\/illingworth.html\">Shona Illingworth<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lux.org.uk\/artist\/sarah-turner\">Sarah Turner<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virginiapitts.com\/\">Virginia Pitts<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lucycash.com\/\">Lucy Cash<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/people\/technical-staff\/senior-film-technician.html\">Heather Green<\/a>, and in its encouragement, development and promotion of women filmmakers from within its film practice students.
