{"id":3052,"date":"2019-11-08T08:57:50","date_gmt":"2019-11-08T08:57:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/?p=3052"},"modified":"2019-11-08T21:42:21","modified_gmt":"2019-11-08T21:42:21","slug":"interdisciplinary-conference-lingering-in-the-memory-palace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/2019\/11\/08\/interdisciplinary-conference-lingering-in-the-memory-palace\/","title":{"rendered":"Interdisciplinary conference: &#8216;Lingering in the Memory Palace&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Doctoral students Marta Colombo, Stefano Farinelli and Katie Li, who are all undertaking the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/100\/history-and-philosophy-of-art\">PhD in the History and Philosophy of Art<\/a> with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/index.html\">School of Arts<\/a>, have organised a conference in partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/modernlanguages.sas.ac.uk\/\">Institute of Modern Languages Research<\/a>, entitled \u2018Lingering in the Memory Palace: Rethinking the Archive through the Arts\u2019, to be held on Monday 12 November 2019, 10.30am to 4pm in London.<\/p>\n<p>The conference will investigate the concept of the archive and its relationships with the arts and the history of art, with the speakers engaging in a constructive dialogue that crosses different disciplines with the wider artistic community to share opinions.<\/p>\n<p>The day will consist of five presentations, four of which will be delivered by Kent PhD students, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/people\/academic-staff\/thomas.html\">Dr Ben Thomas<\/a>, Reader in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/hpa.html\">Department of Art History<\/a>, as keynote speaker.<\/p>\n<p>The line-up of presentations includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ai\u00a0Fukunaga\u00a0(SOAS, University of London),\u2018Collaborative Arts that Archive Memories. Hon Henry Marsham&#8217;s Travel Albums from Meiji Japan\u2019;<\/li>\n<li>Marta Colombo (University of Kent)<em>,\u00a0\u2018<\/em>Theatricality and Interactivity in Installation Art: Rethinking Alik Cavaliere through his Unpublished Journals\u2019;<\/li>\n<li>Rafaella Siakgri\u00a0(University of Kent),\u00a0\u2018<em>The Cabinet of Dr Caligari<\/em>: An Expressionist Treasure under the Scope of Virtual Reality\u2019;<\/li>\n<li>Khadidja Layadi (Universit\u00e9 d&#8217;Oran 2 Mohamed Ben Ahmed), \u2018When Autobiography Transcends Fiction: Chateaubriand\u2019s \u2018Wounded Heart\u2019, his Exile, and his Tyrannical Imagination\u2019<\/li>\n<li>Bernardino Branca\u00a0(University of Kent),\u00a0\u2018The\u00a0Edgar Wind\u00a0Archive at the Bodleian Library in Oxford\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ben\u2019s keynote with talk is entitled \u2018A Tale of Two Archives: C.D.E.
